WHAT GOES ON AT NAVYOUTH?
What specifically happens at NavYouth depends upon the various ministry locations. However, each ministry does seek to impact their students’ lives with the Gospel. We are not satisfied with simply adding to a high schooler’s knowledge and morality. Growing in God’s Word and learning to live in a way that honors Him is important, but we also desire for students to fall in love with Jesus and become His lifelong followers. To do this, our staff and volunteers do not simply fill the role of teacher; they are also friends and mentors so that students feel comfortable talking with them about how their unique lives can glorify the Lord. While still having fun, NavYouth challenges teens to go to the next level in their faith through Bible studies, retreats, mission trips, and one-on-one discipleship.
IS THIS LIKE A CHURCH YOUTH GROUP?
In some respects, yes, and in other respects, no. Like a church youth group, high school students will find solid, biblical teaching, Bible studies, and times of group worship. However, NavYouth’s major focus is spending one-on-one time with as many students as possible, which may or may not be the focus of a local church. Though NavYouth ministries may function differently on a daily basis around the country, this value of discipleship permeates throughout them all. In addition, NavYouth communities are not built on one specific church that the youth attend. Students come from a variety of church backgrounds or may not even currently belong to a local church body.
WHAT KIND OF TOPICS AND SUBJECTS DO YOU TEACH?
We teach on a variety of topics and subjects. Each ministry assesses what is the most needed and relevant to the high schoolers who attend their meetings. Subjects may range from day-to-day issues such as friendship, family and dating to spiritual topics such as grace and the practice of spiritual disciplines. Our job is to biblically challenge and encourage kids where they are. At this stage in a teen’s walk with Jesus, it is our desire to lead them into a love relationship with the Lord and not simply a love for doctrine. Our staff and volunteers are here to take practical truth from Scripture and help kids apply it.
WHAT IS YOUR THEOLOGY?
The Navigators holds several core beliefs that form the foundation of our ministry.
We Believe:
- That the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are inspired by God and inerrant in the original writings, and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life.
- In one God, the Creator; eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- That Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, and that He was and remains true God and true man.
- That God created Adam and Eve in the divine image; that they sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God; and that, as a result of Adam's sin, all human beings are now born with a sinful nature and stand guilty before God.
- That the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.
- In the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven, and in His present life there for us, as High Priest and Advocate.
- In the blessed hope of the personal and imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
- That all who by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.
- That the Holy Spirit indwells and gives spiritual life to all believers, enables them to understand biblical truth, empowers them for godly living, and equips them for service and witness.
- In the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting punishment of the lost.
