David Heiliger
Being the youngest of five, it isn’t surprising that Dave ended up attending NavYouth in high school since all of his siblings did as well. But during his senior year, Dave had an experience at Navs that ultimately shaped the direction of his future. He began to meet one-on-one with a leader, and through this time Christ became more real and central in his life. When beginning college, Dave began to volunteer with NavYouth in order to give others the opportunity he himself received. In 2002 he joined as part-time staff, and in 2004 he became full-time staff. Dave graduated with a B.A. from Washington Bible College in 2008. Now, with ten years of youth ministry experience, Dave is serving as Columbia’s NavYouth city leader.
James Barr
James came from a childhood of divorce and then moved into his teens where drugs, jail and sex would find him. After years of running and trying to figure out the greater meaning of life, God would find him. At age 19 James turned to Christ and began his journey of true purpose. Now James wants to give back to teens and show them what he was missing while growing up. After a couple years as a YoungLife leader and five years of involvement in The Navigators’ collegiate ministry, James joined The Navigators’ high school ministry, NavYouth. His desire is to give hope to kids who are as empty as he was in high school.
Julie Heiliger
Julie was first introduced to NavYouth during her sophomore year in high school. After graduating, she stayed in the nearby area and began to volunteer while going to college. She has been serving in the ministry ever since. Julie graduated with a B.A. from Washington Bible College in 2005, and an M.A. from Capital Bible Seminary in 2008. What draws her to youth ministry is seeing high school students take ownership of their faith and begin growing in Christ simply because they love him. Julie and her husband, Dave, met in high school while attending the NavYouth ministry they both serve with today. They married in 2005.
Kerry Fitzgerald
Kerry started high school the way many Christian teens do, as a good kid with good grades and a good church and home life. When she suddenly encountered people who were following Christ passionately and wholeheartedly, she discovered that “good” just wasn't good enough, and she started pursuing the Life that Jesus has to offer. Now, having graduated with her B.A. in English Literature from Allegheny College in 2008, Kerry desires to share that Life with other teens who are bogged down with the mundane, desperately needing to see how thrillingly epic is the purpose God has for them! To begin doing this, Kerry joined NavYouth in 2008 through the EDGE Corps. Now she is enjoying her one-on-one ministry with some great girls.
